Mountain Kilimanjaro is the highest
mountain in Africa standing 19,043 ft and the
world’s highest freestanding mountain.
Just south of the equator rising from the savannah plains,
the summit always enigmatically covered in snow,
Mount Kilimanjaro Trekking is
a must for mountaineers, trekkers
and adventure lovers both amateur and professionals.
The climb, which takes on average, 5 days, takes hikers through
think forest and alpine grassland, dessolate rockface and brilliant
white glaciers. A trip to this ‘Roof of Africa’
is worth taking.
Mount
Meru is one of Africa’s most
beautiful volcanoes, and it is the second
highest mountain in Tanzania at 14,979
ft, and the fifth highest in Africa.
This prime location gives walkers the opportunity to spot some
birds and wildlife that inhabit
the area.
Ever wonder what it must be like to climb to
the roof of Africa? Can you imagine the view
from 19,340 feet? Any reasonably fit
person can experience this with a trek up the highest
mountain in Africa - Mount Kilimanjaro!
Or climb a dormant volcano!
Mount Meru, a wonderful trek into alpine Africa.
With lush forests, bare rock, a spectacular crater, an abundance
of wildlife and a snow capped peak at 14,979 feet.
Crater Highlands
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the
Ngorongoro Crater Highlands offers hikers
the chance to experience an extended piece of
the country on foot and up close. Longer hikes start around Ngorongoro
Wildlife Safaris (Ngorongoro Crater) and pass through
smaller Craters and Summits
on the way, finishing at Lake
Natron with hike to the Crater of the active volcano
Oldonyo
Lengai. The track to the top of
Lengai is very steep, and a
true challenge attempted only by hikers with a good level of fitness.
Rising to over 2,600 meters with two mountain
blocks, Uluguru
Mountains are part of the Eastern Arc Mountains,
old crystalline chain of mountains extending from south east Kenya
to the south east of Tanzania, recognized as a global biodiversity
"hot spot", for high species richness, large number of endemic
plant and animal species, and the delicate nature from human caused
disturbances. Among them are Usambara Mountains
and Udzungwa Mountains. These mountains are also
given credit for the unique and diverse hydrological importance
to the forest vegetation
There are 15 species of birds which are under
conservation interest, 11 endemic reptiles and
amphibians, three threatened and two endemic
mammals. Much of the mountains are covered with forest reserves
that contains some of the oldest species trees
The Usambara
Mountains part of the ancient Eastern Arc range of
mountains, are situated in the north east of Tanzania, between
Mount Kilimanjaro and the Indian Ocean region
of Tanga and Pangani. Considered to be a "Galapagos"
of the plant world, they remain little visited and offer a superb
view of unspoiled habitats for endangered species. This stunning
mountainous range is accessible from Lushoto in the west, or alternatively
Amani in the East.
Here you will enjoy a pleasant climate, great treks,
good birding, and for the botanist an amazing
diversity of flora. Treks and drives will lead
you though beautiful arable country and small villages up to majestic
escarpments and mountain tops from where the views may be wonderful.
It's best to take around three or four days, allowing you to see
Lushoto
Town, many small villages, and the wonderful viewpoints
off the escarpments from where you can look to Kilimanjaro far
off and down to the plains below.
