Currently, the
Serengeti National Park and
Selous
Game Reserve have hot air
balloon safaris.
Especially during the months of the
Great
Serengeti Migration, this is often the highlight of
visitors' trips to Tanzania. The journey takes
a little over an
hour and sets off
before
dawn,
flying low over the plains as the
sun comes up and turns the
grasslands from blue
to gold. After landing, guests have a champain,
breakfast
complete with cystal glasses and white linen table cloth
in the middle of the
African bush, as
zebras
and
antilopes graze nearby. Although expensive,
the
experience is
well-worth the
treat. Advance booking is advisable as demand for the ride is high.

Trekking / Mountain Climbing
Tanzania
numerous parks
and reserves offer many climbing options
for the avid explorer. The most frequent expeditons
are obvious to Mount
Kilimanjaro and Mount
Meru, but there are other destinations
such as the Crater Highlands,
Udzungwa Mountain,
Uluguru Mountain
and Usambara Mountain. We will happily put together
an itinerary that suits your preferences and our ’Things
to bring’ section will help make sure that
you are adequately prepared.
Mountain
Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain
in Africa standing 19,043 ft and the world’s
highest freestanding mountain. Just south of
the equator rising from the savannah plains,
the summit always enigmatically covered in snow,
Mount Kilimanjaro is a must for mountaineers,
trekkers and adventure lovers
both amateur and professionals. The climb, which takes on average,
5 days, takes hikers through think forest and alpine grassland,
dessolate rockface and brilliant white glaciers. A trip to this
‘Roof of Africa’ is worth taking.
Mount
Meru is one of Africa’s most
beautiful volcanoes, and it is the second
highest mountain in
Tanzania at 14,979 ft, and the fifth
highest in Africa. This prime location gives walkers
the opportunity to spot some birds and wildlife
that inhabit the area.
Ever wonder what it must be like to climb to
the roof of Africa? Can you imagine the view
from 19,340 feet? Any reasonably fit
person can experience this with a trek up the highest
mountain in Africa - Mount Kilimanjaro!
Or climb a dormant volcano!
Mount Meru, a wonderful trek into alpine Africa.
With lush forests, bare rock, a spectacular crater, an abundance
of wildlife and a snow capped peak at 14,979 feet.
Crater Highlands
The Ngorongoro
Conservation Area and the
Crater Highlands offers hikers the chance
to experience an extended piece of the country
on foot and up close. Longer hikes start around Ngorongoro
Crater and pass through smaller Craters
and Summits on the way, finishing at Lake
Natron with hike to the Crater of the active volcano
Oldonyo
Lengai. The track to the top of
Lengai is very steep, and a
true challenge attempted only by hikers with a good level of fitness.
Rising to over 2,600 meters with two mountain
blocks, Uluguru
Mountains are part of the Eastern Arc Mountains,
old crystalline chain of mountains extending from south east Kenya
to the south east of Tanzania, recognized as a global biodiversity
"hot spot", for high species richness, large number of endemic
plant and animal species, and the delicate nature from human caused
disturbances. Among them are Usambara Mountains
and Udzungwa Mountains. These mountains are also
given credit for the unique and diverse hydrological importance
to the forest vegetation
There are 15 species of birds which are under
conservation interest, 11 endemic reptiles and
amphibians, three threatened and two endemic
mammals. Much of the mountains are covered with forest reserves
that contains some of the oldest species trees
The Usambara
Mountains part of the ancient Eastern Arc range of
mountains, are situated in the north east of Tanzania, between
Mount Kilimanjaro and the Indian Ocean region
of Tanga and Pangani. Considered to be a "Galapagos"
of the plant world, they remain little visited and offer a superb
view of unspoiled habitats for endangered species. This stunning
mountainous range is accessible from Lushoto in the west, or alternatively
Amani in the East.
Here you will enjoy a pleasant climate, great treks,
good birding, and for the botanist an amazing
diversity of flora. Treks and drives will lead
you though beautiful arable country and small villages up to majestic
escarpments and mountain tops from where the views may be wonderful.
It's best to take around three or four days, allowing you to see
Lushoto
Town, many small villages, and the wonderful viewpoints
off the escarpments from where you can look to Kilimanjaro far
off and down to the plains below.

Fishing and Diving
Tanzania offers divers world class reefs and plentiful schools of tropical fish
just off-shore of popular beaches and secluded locations
Zanzibar
and Pemba
Island are the perfect place to explore the Indian
Ocean’s marine life. The Island offers magnificent
deep sea diving ground. Experienced divers
have an opportunity to explore pristine coral
structures with abundant marine life and the relatively frigid
unspoiled waters of the Indian Ocean.
The deep waters of the Indian Oceans along Tanzania's
coast are rich in big game fish, from Marlin
and Tuna to swordfish and biting
Barracudas. Besides the big game fish,
Grouper, Red Snapper and other
local species are popular along the coastal waters.

Boating and Canoeing
Boating and Canoeing through
the rivers, ocean bays and water ways of
Tanzania can be an exhilarating experience.
River boating can take you past sleeping crocodiles
and hippos sunning themselves with their mouths
wide open, gathered in half-submerged herds.
On Tanzania's large fresh water lakes, boats
are a popular means of transport and offer visitors
the chance to see life under water.
Water
safaris in Selous Game Reserve are on offer as a
break from longer game viewing
and give visitors the oppotunity to get out in
the open and see tremendous amounts of bird life
and water species up close. Despite the proximity
of Crocodiles and hippos during
boat safaris, the expeditions are extremely
safe and the animals react with puzzled
curiosity to the site of boats on water.
Sail into chimpanzee territory on a dhow,
skimming over the fresh, crystal waters of the Lake Tanganyika,
or travel up the Wami River in Saadani,
surrounded by amazing Birdlife, Hippos
and Alligators.
Canoeing trips are available in the Arusha
National Park and are a wonderful experience, drifting
past herds of Elephants, Giraffes,
Hippos and Buffalos as you cruise
along the shores of the lake surrounded by countless flocks of
birds.

Walking Safari
A walk through the African bush
is a wonderful way to experience Africa intimately. Smells
and sounds become distinct and varied, and smaller
creatures gain significance. They are no longer simply
rushed past in the race for the bigger game.
when larger animals do appear, they are met at
eye-level; the land is truly shared
between humans and animals.
Safety is not an issue - all walks
are accompanied by armed, experienced
guides and rangers. Walks can
be from a few hours to full day
with picnic lunch.
