WBSP 101: 3 Nights / 4 Days Safari to Selous Game Reserve

Day 1: Dar - Selous

You will be picked up from your hotel/residence at 0830hrs and proceed to Selous Game Reserve with picnic lunch,

Late afternoon, boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River.

Dinner and overnight at the Tented Camp (L,D).

You will discover the Rufiji River by boat, encounter hippos and crocodiles in good numbers. Some 350 bird species have been recorded in the Selous Game Reserve. These are typical of miombo woodlands, and the bird life supported by Rufiji swamplands is of particular interest.

Day 2: Selous

You will have full day in the Selous Game Reserve exploration of the Reserve by 4 wheel drive vehicle.

The Selous Game Reserve is the largest in Africa, covering 54,600 square kilometer. The park gets its name from the hunter and explorer Frederick Courtney Selous. He was killed here during World War 1. Selous is famous for elephants. Other species commonly seen are lions, wild dogs, buffaloes, bushbuck, impalas, elands, baboons, zebras and greater kudus. It was originally set aside as a hunting area where animals are abundant but more shy then the Northern Parks. Excursions by 4x4 vehicle will permit you to have good photographic opportunities and the chance to explore different sections of vast park.

Day 3: Selous

After early breakfast your day will start with morning walking safari followed by game drive of the reserve with picnic lunch

Our foot safari will give you a particularly intimate feel for the African wilds.

Day 4: Selous - Dar

After breakfast return to Dar es Salaam with picnic lunch (B,L).

WBSP 102: 5 Nights / 6 Days safari to Ruaha National Park, Morogoro, Selous Game Reserve (Budget Lodge)

Day 1: Dar - Ruaha

Pick up from DSM city center and proceed to Ruaha National Park with picnic lunch.

Dinner and overnight at the Ruaha Hilltop Lodge (L,D).

The journey will see you leaving behind Dar es Salaam and the humid, low lying coastal belt. The highway crosses the hills of the coastal hinterland. The road then dips down onto scrub – covered plains. Tall termite hills are seen along the roadside together with local Masai like tribe, selling beaded necklaces and belts. You then pass the sisal plantations and begin to get glimpses of the beautiful Uluguru Mountains that soar above the plains and the town of Morogoro. The highway then passes through Mikumi National Park and you will get the opportunity to view the game. Beyond Mikumi, the roads climb the Kitonga hills which are part of the Udzungwa Mountains. The road then follows the Great Ruaha river and then climbs the Great Rift Espcapment and then past Iringa town and onto Ruaha National Park.

Day 2: Ruaha

After breakfast, full day’s game drive in Ruaha National Park with picnic lunch.

Dinner and overnight at the Ruaha Hilltop Lodge (B,L,D).

Covering 13,000 square kilometers, Its name comes from Ruaha River. Which is built overlooking the Great Ruaha River and it blends into its natural surroundings to enable visitors to feel themselves part of the wild.

Day 3: Ruaha - Morogoro

After breakfast, proceed to Morogoro town with picnic lunch.

Day 4: Morogoro - Selous

After breakfast, drive to Selous Game Reserve with picnic lunch.

The journey to Selous is the most amazing and truly wild and untouched areas of Tanzania. The drive will take you up into the Uluguru Mountains across rivers and past small local villages and farms. The drive is tiring but possibly the most rewarding and adventurous on the Tanzania Tourist Circuit.

Day 5: Selous

After breakfast, morning game drive of the reserve.

Return to your lodge for hot lunch.

After early breakfast, you will start with early morning walking safari, followed by short game drive with your picnic lunch.

Later drive back to DSM.

Walking safari will give you a particularly intimate feel for the African wilds.

It starts in the morning with a guidance of an armed ranger, takes around 2 hours before you meet the driver at the reserve gate. Walking safaris offer a good chance of seeing giraffe, zebra, elephant, and good birding.

Day 1: Dar - Mikumi

Pick up from DSM city center and you proceed to south of Dar es Salaam, along the Tanzania / Zambia Highway with picnic lunch

With 3,230 square kilometers coverage Mikumi National Park is well-known park in Tanzania. The park is well-known for its population of elephants, giraffes buffaloes, zebras, elands, greater Kudu, wildebeest, roan and sable antelope. Predators include tree-climbing lions (which are in large number), leopards, wild hunting dogs and black-backed jackal. More than 300 species of birds have been recorded here including Eurasian migrants such as red billed ox pecker, marabou stork and lilac breasted roller.

Day 2 + 3: Hiking in Udzungwa Mountain National Park.

After breakfast drive to Udzungwa with your picnic lunch.

The Udzungwa Mountain National Park, which is 1990 sq.kms. Is the first terrestrial National park in Tanzania. It is well known for its biologically diverse forest, with approximately 20 - 30% out of 200 animals and plant species that grow here not found any where in the world. Still it is really beautiful place for hiking. It is one of the top ten forests for bird conservation in Africa. Wildlife: Variety of animal species can be found here, including water buffalo, elephants, and full of reptiles and snakes and more.

Day 4: Udzungwa Mountain National Park - Ruaha National Park.

After breakfast, with picnic lunch proceed to Ruaha National Park

After early breakfast, you will start with morning walking safari. Return to your lodge for hot lunch late afternoon, boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River.

Day 11: Selous Game Reserve - Mafia Island.

After breakfast, with picnic lunch drop off to the airstrip to connect with your flight to Mafia.

On arrival pick up from the airport and transfer to mafia Island Lodge for dinner and overnight (B,L,D).

Day 12, 13, 14, 15: Mafia Island Lodge.

After breakfast, day at leisure Lunch, dinner and overnight at Mafia Island Lodge (B,L,D).

Day 16: Mafia Island - Dar es Salaam

After breakfast, transfer to the airport to connect with your flight to DSM. Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam connect with your flight to your home destination.
